Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a chronic disorder in which the uterine lining tissue spreads outside of the uterus, leading to discomfort, inflammation, and problems with conception. It is a common gynaecological condition in which the endometrial tissue, which normally lines the uterus, grows outside the uterus, causing pain and other symptoms. It affects women of reproductive age and can have a significant impact on their quality of life.
Endometriosis can be challenging to diagnose and treat. However, our multidisciplinary approach involving gynaecologists, pain specialists, and other healthcare professionals helps to deliver the best possible care. We work to enhance the quality of life and reproductive outcomes for endometriosis-affected women for their well-being.

Treatments

  • Pain medication: Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or naproxen can help relieve pain associated with endometriosis.
  • Hormone therapy: Hormonal therapies such as birth control pills, progestin-only medications, and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists can help relieve pain and slow the growth of endometrial tissue.
  • Surgery: Laparoscopic surgery can be used to remove endometrial tissue and scar tissue, and is recommended for severe cases or when other treatments have not been effective.
  • Hysterectomy: In severe cases, a hysterectomy is recommended to remove the uterus and cervix.
  • Alternative therapies: Some women find relief from endometriosis symptoms through yoga, or dietary changes, although there is limited scientific evidence to support these therapies.
