Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a specialized technique used in conjunction with in vitro fertilization (IVF) to assist couples experiencing male infertility or sperm-related issues in achieving pregnancy. ICSI involves the injection of a single sperm directly into an egg to facilitate fertilization, bypassing the natural fertilization process. In situations of severe male infertility, such as low sperm count, poor sperm motility, or aberrant sperm morphology, ICSI is frequently employed. ICSI enables more accurate and controlled fertilization, enhancing the odds of a successful pregnancy.
Chella IVF offers personalized ICSI services, such as sperm and egg retrieval and the technically difficult sperm injection process into the egg. We use the latest techniques to boost our patients’ chances of successful fertilization and pregnancy. Trust us on expert ICSI treatment, guidance, and support throughout your reproductive journey.

ICSI Treatments

  • Ovarian stimulation: Similar to traditional IVF, the woman undergoes ovarian stimulation to produce multiple mature eggs.
  • Egg retrieval: The eggs are retrieved from the ovaries using a needle guided by ultrasound.
  • Sperm collection: The male partner provides a semen sample, which is processed in the laboratory to isolate the healthiest and most motile sperm.
  • Sperm injection: A highly skilled embryologist selects a single, healthy sperm and injects it directly into the egg using a microscopic needle.
  • Embryo culture: The resulting embryos are cultured in the laboratory for several days until they are ready for transfer.
  • Embryo transfer: One or more embryos are transferred into the uterus through the cervix using a thin, flexible catheter.
  • Hormone drugs: Hormone drugs aid in implantation and early pregnancy and are examples of supportive medications.

ICSI Benefits

  • High success rates: ICSI has a higher success rate than other fertility treatments for couples experiencing male factor infertility, low sperm count, or low motility.
  • Allows for fertilization with minimal sperm: ICSI can facilitate fertilization with only a single healthy sperm, bypassing the natural fertilization process and improving the chances of conception.
  • Expanded fertility options: ICSI can be used with donor sperm, allowing couples to expand their options for fertility treatment.
  • Genetic screening: ICSI allows for pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS) to select embryos with normal genetic makeup, reducing the risk of genetic disorders in offspring.
  • Couples can use their sperm and eggs: ICSI enables couples to use their sperm and eggs, preserving their genetic connection to their child.
  • Helpful in cases of previous ailures: ICSI may be helpful in cases where previous IVF attempts have failed, offering another option for couples to achieve pregnancy.
